On a cool, October, Friday night, the Brookwood Panthers saw its 2022 playoff hopes come to an end at home against the McAdory Yellow Jackets.
It was never even close, as the Panthers failed to score, falling 56-0.
Brookwood senior QB Kobie Humphries and sophomore QB Jacob Rowell could never fully find their footing in the game, combining for zero points, a safety, and an 85-yard pick-six. The Yellow Jackets played tough all game, denying every Panther challenge. McAdory stamped its ticket to the playoffs with authority.
In an astounding display of all-around dominance, the Yellow Jackets scored eight touchdowns with eight different players, including one defensive touchdown. The Panther run defense had no answer for the effective attack McAdory employed all game.
"We had to treat this like the first round of the playoffs, it was a win or go home situation," said McAdory head coach Aryvia Holmes. "If we didn't take care of this one, we were going to be done in two games."
"The guys finally put a full game together offensively and defensively," said Holmes. "I'm very proud of them."
McAdory (5-3) has no time to celebrate, as the Yellow Jackets face Hillcrest next week in a pivotal matchup. They will play on with hopes of a playoff run, whereas Brookwood (4-4) will wrap up its season in the next couple weeks with games against Northside and Tuscaloosa County.
