The Corona virus has created an assortment of needs. Among those requiring assistance in Tuscaloosa is Meals on Wheels, a volunteer based organization that delivers a hot midday meal to people who are home-bound and/or unable to prepare meals for themselves.

United Way of West Alabama Vice President for Communications Julie Mann told a Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama conference call it can be done safely, "You pick up meals at 11:00 am and the routes run about one hour, You can leave the meal at the door so there is no contact".

Ms. Mann emphasizes the meals are critical to recipients receiving adequate nutrition, "You are taking these meals to seniors and those who cannot prepare their own meals."

Meals on Wheels serves some 75 people in Tuscaloosa. As a result of this program, many individuals are able to remain in their homes and avoid institutionalization.

If you are interested in sponsorship or if you would like to volunteer to deliver meals, please contact Meals on Wheels at 205-752-5429 extension 228.
