Press Release from the Humane Society of West Alabama

This big ole boy is Ali, a 4-year-old Shepherd/Chow mix. He has a thick reddish brown coat with a black muzzle and a tail that curls over his back. Some of his features definitely remind us of a Chow. Ali weighs 71 pounds right now and does need to lose some weight! He should probably weigh around 50 pounds at most.

Ali was surrendered to our local shelter because the owner said he had food aggression issues. He was tested at Metro and did not exhibit any aggression with people so it may be around other dogs with food. Because he did test well being around other dogs (but no food involved) that have his energy level. It may just be a food/treat issue but better to be aware of this because it’s easy to work around. Ali is a fun dog and likes to be around people and had been at Metro several weeks but we think his size may have deterred people from choosing him so we pulled him out to start working on his diet and get him more exercise too. He loves to go on walks and is good on a leash.

Ali will require a fenced in yard if left outside any on his own. He may do ok in an apartment as long as he gets plenty of exercise. Ali should be fine with children ages 12 and up, not young ones due to his size. We have started on his crate training. Ali is up to date on his vet care, heartworm negative, neutered, and is microchipped. He is on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Come meet this big bear of a dog and see just how cute and cuddly he is!

All HSWA dogs are either at our Dog Adoption Facility or in foster homes. All dogs require an appointment to meet. Please call us at 205-554-0011 or email humaneswa@yahoo.com to request an appointment to see Ali and check availability.
