National Champion Inducted into Alabama Sports Hall of Fame

Former Alabama and NFL defensive back George Teague has been selected to enter into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in the class of 2021. Teague is a part of a class that includes Willie Anderson, Hal Baird, Cliff Ellis, Steve Hudson, Lillie Leatherwood, Ben Wallace and Demarcus Ware.

Teague moved to Alabama while in high school and began attending Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, Al. earned 6A All- State as a cornerback his senior year. He then decided to attend the University of Alabama to continue his academic and playing career.

Teague tallied 14 career interceptions during his time patrolling the defensive backfield for the Crimson Tide. He was a part of the 1992 National Championship team that defeated Miami in the Sugar Bowl to claim Alabama's first national championship after Coach Bear Bryant's retirement.

Teague scored a touchdown in that bowl game but it is another highlight that is often associated with him. After getting beat by a Hurricane receiver, Teague tracked down the Miami player before he could get to the endzone and stripped the ball from him. Teague prevented Miami from scoring and gave the Tide much needed momentum to win that game.

Teague earned Second-Team All-SEC in 1991, First Team All SEC in 1992, Second-Team All-American in 1992 in addition to winning the 1992 National Championship and SEC Championship.

After leaving Alabama he was drafted 29th overall by the Green Bay Packers. He earned a place on the 1993 All-Rookie team. While in the NFL he tallied 447 tackles, 15 interceptions, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, two sacks and two defensive scores in his nine seasons.

Teague is also remembered as a Cowboy for carrying the American flag out of the tunnel after 9/11 happened and for defending the Dallas star at midfield when Terrell Owens used the star in a touchdown celebration.
