The brand new 93-room TownePlace Suites by Marriott officially opened Thursday on McFarland Boulevard next to Buffalo Wild Wings and will specifically serve guests who are looking to stay in Tuscaloosa for longer than a weekend.

"The cool thing about TownPlace is it's actually primarily an extended stay hotel so they really cater to the seven-plus night market," said Jasmine Rainey, Director of Tourism at the Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports Commission. "They have a lot of amenities that accommodate both your long-term extended stay and your transient, one- to six-night [stays]."

The hotel will offer its guests a heated-outdoor pool, an on-site fitness center, outdoor patios with barbecues and an indoor meeting space. For its extended stay guests, the hotel's amenities include 20 one-bedroom suites that feature full ovens and a coin-operated laundry facility.

"The great thing about Tuscaloosa is we have a lot of industry here with the automotive manufacturing," Rainey said. " So you do have people that come in from oversees that they need a lodging solution that doesn't tie them down to a lease."

Rainey said that the advantage of having more extended stay hotels in the area is that it gives guests the option to extend their stay or leave early and not be penalized for it.

No grand opening or ribbon cutting date has been set yet, but for more information on the hotel check out their website here.
