Please Be Severe Weather Aware On Sunday
Please Be Severe Weather Aware On Sunday
We are encouraging you to be weather aware on Sunday, April 12, 2020, because there is the possibility for significant severe weather across the deep south, which includes the entire state of Alabama. I also encourage you to have multiple ways to receive weather watches and warnings; these are imperative if you live in Alabama. You can also download this radio station’s free app.
For Alabama, you will either be in an “enhanced risk area” or “moderate risk area.” The coverage area for this radio station is under a “moderate risk,” which includes strong, long-track tornadoes, 70 mph straight-line winds, and golf ball size hail. The first round of storms (at the time of this blog post) should be around 1 pm between 10 pm where the most significant weather could start around 3 pm. However, this timing could shift, which is dependent on many variables. In addition, there is a Wind Advisory for all of Central Alabama from Noon Sunday until Monday at 3 pm. You can expect south winds from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to the 35 mph.
Please be prepared for the following
Strong, long-track tornadoes
70 mph straight-line winds
Golf ball size hail
Flooding
A shift of timing of the weather event
Also, as we are also dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, and if you usually seek shelter during a possible severe weather event and tornadoes, please be sure to call ahead to your community shelter to find out if they will be open.
