Police Identify Tuesday Shooting Victim, Investigation Continues

Investigators have identified the man shot and killed in Tuscaloosa Tuesday afternoon as a 22-year-old local man named Darrieon Dewayne Dees, and police continue to look for answers into how and why his life was taken.

Captain Kip Hart, the assistant commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said officers were called to Tuscaloosa’s West End around 3:30 afternoon, where they found Dees lying dead in the roadway around 24th Street and Fosters Ferry Avenue.

In combing the scene, investigators have recovered several shell casings and a firearm from the area.

Hart said the VCU is still working to question witnesses who were in the area yesterday, and as of Wednesday morning, no one has been charged with the killing. A 16-year-old was arrested and placed in juvenile detention on a weapons offense, but Hart said his name will not be released at this time because of his age and the relative insignificance of the charge against him.

Hart said his team has identified several other people who were in the area at the time of the shooting and are still attempting to locate and interview them. Anyone with information about this killing is urged to contact law enforcement or the Tuscaloosa CrimeStoppers.

This is still an active investigation and further information will be released at a later time.
