Raiders Receiver Henry Ruggs III Reportedly Involved in Serious Car Accident
Update: 12:55 p.m. CT, according to Las Vegas Police, Henry Ruggs faces felony DUI charges after being involved in a car accident that left one person dead.
Ruggs was the driver of the Chevrolet Corvette and struck a Toyota Rav4 resulting in a fiery crash that shut down traffic.
"On behalf of our client Henry Ruggs III, we are conducting our own investigation as of this writing and ask everyone to reserve judgement until all the facts are gathered.”
According to reports out of TMZ, former Alabama wide receiver and current Las Vegas Raider, Henry Ruggs III was involved in a serious car accident in Las Vegas in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
TMZ reports that Ruggs will be OK but the condition of the other involved parties is unknown at this time.
Ruggs wrecked his vehicle at approximately 3:40 a.m. local time and there is local speculation that the accident could have resulted in a fatality.
The Las Vegas Raiders were not in action this past week but the former Alabama receiver has had a strong season for the AFC West catching 24 passes for 469 yards and two touchdowns.
Ruggs has been open throughout his career about honoring the memory of his high school teammate and friend Roderic Scott. Scott passed away in a tragic car accident while the pair were classmates at Robert E. Lee High School and Ruggs traditionally salutes his friend after touchdowns.
The Raiders are in the midst of a tumultuous season after the organization parted ways with former head coach Jon Gruden upon uncovering emails that contained disparaging remarks about minorities and other league officials.
The Raiders selected Ruggs with the No. 12 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. While at Alabama as a member of the "Rydeouts" he caught 98 passes for 1,716 yards and 24 touchdowns.
