Sanderson ended up leading the basketball program to a victory at UCLA. The 1982-83 squad ultimately went 20-12 and was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, leaving the victory over the Bruins as the high-water mark of the season.
Wilbur Jackson will be honored alongside John Mitchell at Saturday's A-Day game. The pair broke the color barrier of Alabama football over 50 years ago as the first two African American athletes in program history.
Mitchell will be honored at the 2022 A-Day football game along with Wilbur Jackson as the first two African American football players in Crimson Tide program history. Mitchell won two SEC Championships as a player for the Tide and won a national championship as an assistant coach at Alabama as well. He currently serves as Pittsburgh Steelers assistant head coach.
Not only did “Bear” Bryant instill a legacy of winning and success, but in a time where Alabama was viewed as one of the worst places in America, Coach Bryant transformed the narrative from uneducated farmers to one of hard work, class, and humbleness.
