Teen Sentenced to Life in Prison for Fayette County Shooting
A Cullman teenager has been sentenced to life in prison for a murder in Fayette County last year.
Blue Berry Hill, 19, was charged for killing 18-year-old Joshua Devin Bush. According to a Friday morning press release, Bush was found dead at the intersection of Sand Springs Road and Bly Road in Fayette County last August.
A passerby had driven by the scene a couple of hours earlier, seeing nothing, but when they drove by later that afternoon at around 2:30 p.m., they spotted Bush lying dead in the intersection. Bush had died from a gunshot wound.
“Hill shot and killed Devin Bush for no apparent reason,” District Attorney Andy Hamlin said in the release. “This young man was struck down in the prime of his life in a senseless act of violence. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family.”
The release indicated that several witnesses assisted in the multi-agency investigation, which was comprised of teams from the 24th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office/Criminal Investigations Division, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Winfield Police Department, Alabama State Bureau of Investigation and the 25th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office/Criminal Investigations Division. The group effort led to a quick identification and apprehension of the suspect, Hill, who was detained the night of the shooting at a home in Fayette County.
He pleaded guilty earlier this week in a Tuesday afternoon hearing after Circuit Judge Sam Junkin denied a request for him to be charged as a youthful offender. He will serve the life sentence in the Alabama Department of Corrections.
“He received the maximum sentence allowed by law for this murder, and he deserves every day of it," Hamlin said.
