Alabama Has a Favorite M&M’s Flavor, and It’s a Classic

When it comes to M&M’s, Alabama apparently isn't looking for anything too fancy.

A new analysis of Google Trends search data from the past 12 months examined which M&M’s variety generated the most interest in each state. Alabama’s favorite? Peanut M&M’s.

The iconic yellow-bag variety was the most searched M&M’s flavor in Alabama, putting the state alongside several others that prefer the combination of chocolate and peanuts.

Peanut M&M’s, which debuted in 1954, ranked as the favorite in six states overall and showed particular popularity in the South, including neighboring Georgia.

But Alabama's choice wasn't America's No. 1.

Caramel – 12 states
Original – 11 states
Peanut – 6 states
Fudge Brownie – 4 states
Dark Chocolate – 4 states

Caramel M&M’s took the national crown, generating the most search interest in 12 states. Original M&M’s followed closely behind, leading in 11 states.

Peanut M&M’s finished third nationally with six states.

Fudge Brownie and Dark Chocolate M&M’s each claimed four states, while Crispy, Dark Chocolate Peanut and Peanut Butter M&M’s each led in three.

The results show an interesting split between people who stick with the classics and those willing to try newer additions to the candy aisle.

Alabama appears to be firmly on the classic side.

And considering Peanut M&M’s have been around for more than 70 years, the results suggest Alabama candy lovers aren't ready to give up that yellow bag anytime soon.

So now comes the important question: Did Alabama get it right, or is another M&M’s flavor better?
