Podcast Hosts Apologize for Their Reaction to T.I.’s Comments About Taking His Daughter to Gynecologist, Delete Episode
Following their controversial interview with T.I., the women of the Ladies Like Us podcast have removed the episode and issued an apology.
On Thursday (Nov. 7), Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham announced through their podcast's Instagram page that the episode featuring the Dime Trap rapper had been taken down. They also noted that their laughter, which came about while Tip was explaining how he makes sure his daughter is still a virgin, was merely a “knee jerk reaction” and did not reflect their true feelings about what he was saying.
"To everyone confused, angry and hurt by the recent episode of Ladies Like Us, we want to start off by saying that we sincerely apologize for our knee jerk reaction to the uncomfortable topic," the post begins. "We were completely caught off guard/shocked and looking back, we should have reacted much differently in the moment. The comments that were made and the reaction that followed are not in any way a reflection of our personal views on the topic."
They go on to say they feel "deeply awful" about the incident and that they take full accountability for their "lack of action."
As previously reported, T.I. appeared on the Ladies Like Us podcast in a new episode posted on Tuesday (Nov. 5) and revealed that he accompanies his 18-year-old daughter on yearly visits to the gynecologist to ensure that she is still a virgin. He explained that he does so by having the doctor check if her hymen is “still intact.” As of her most recent birthday, Tip said, the results from the doctor were to his liking.
In addition to backlash from fans and peers, Planned Parenthood also spoke out against T.I.'s comments in a series of tweets.
“Idk who needs to hear this but virginity is a made-up social construct, and it has absolutely nothing to do with your hymen," Planned Parenthood wrote on Twitter on Wednesday (Nov. 6). "A virgin is someone who’s never had sex. But ‘sex’ means different things to different people, so ‘virginity’ does too. Many don’t care what it means or think it matter. Whatever you believe, the fact is you can’t tell if someone’s had sex by checking their hymen.”
T.I. has yet to comment on the backlash.
