Big recognition for West Alabama is coming back from Montgomery.

The Alabama Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs held its annual Alabama Area Council last week, bringing together leaders, students, and community partners from across the state. And when it was all said and done, Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama walked away with some major wins.

Leading the way was Abriyah White, the organization’s 2026 Youth of the Year, who earned second runner up in the statewide competition. Her recognition highlights not just academic success, but leadership and a strong commitment to serving her community.

On the leadership side, BGC West Alabama President and CEO Kim Turner was named Alabama CEO of the Year. The honor recognizes her work growing programs, expanding opportunities, and continuing to push the organization forward across the region.

The organization also picked up recognition for Lemonade Day Tuscaloosa, which was honored as an outstanding academic success program. The initiative focuses on teaching kids financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and real world skills that can set them up long term.

Turner says these awards speak directly to the mission of helping young people reach their full potential and reflects the work being done daily by staff and community partners.

The Alabama Area Council brings together Boys & Girls Clubs from across the state to share ideas, celebrate success, and continue building stronger support systems for young people across Alabama.
