Continuing a commitment to not shut off utility services for families struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic, the city of Tuscaloosa has extended a grace period for unpaid bills through March 31st, Mayor Walt Maddox announced Monday afternoon.

Maddox amended an executive order in place since early this year that protects families that are late on paying bills from seeing vital services including water, sewer and trash collection from being interrupted during an already difficult season.

“I know that families have extra financial strain and stress this holiday season because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” Maddox said. “In the spirit of the holiday season, I hope that we can alleviate this stress in a small way by extending this grace period into March.”
