Tuscaloosa Housing Authority Holds Special Event for Branscomb
Residents at Tuscaloosa's Branscomb Apartments came together for fellowship, free food, and a basketball tournament for prizes all put together by the Tuscaloosa Housing Authority.
Thursday, October 26th, the Branscomb community participated in a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for prizes provided by the Tuscaloosa Housing Authority with special guest referees from the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
"Seeing kids come out, and having a good time, playing basketball, and enjoying themselves means a lot to me," said Deputy Chief of Police Sebo Sanders who served as one of the referees for the games.
"It means a lot to me because I'm seeing the community and different organizations come together with the Tuscaloosa Police Department."
"We've just finished renovation to the interior of the units, and we knew they didn't have a playground here so we wanted to refurbish the basketball courts and give it a facelift," said Jessica Alexander, Director of Development and Capital Programs for the Tuscaloosa Housing Authority.
"I think for us, it's bringing our families together, tying in our community partners and letting our families know we're concerned bout them, we care about them and we want them to be able to live and thrive while they live here in Branscomb."
Members of the Branscomb community enjoyed music from a live DJ, Townsquare Media's Big Dawg DreDay, and they received drinks and food provided by Brown's BBQ.
"I like to be able to help. To come out and help the people and give them whatever they need. They can call me anytime," said Steven Brown, owner of Brown's BBQ.
Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office was on-site letting children get an in-depth look and feel of a police vehicle and introducing the children to a special k-9 officer.
Tuscaloosa County Fire & Rescue and Shelton State Community College were also on-site helping to give community members a great time at the Fall Fun Day.
