UA Hosts Career Expo With Over Two Dozen Local Businesses
Thursday evening, the University of Alabama and the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama hosted a career expo at the Tuscaloosa River Market for students of the University of Alabama.
The purpose of the event was for students of the University of Alabama to have networking opportunities with local businesses in the Tuscaloosa area.
Jim Page, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce said "Sometimes there's a perception for students, especially those who aren't from this community, maybe from out of state that there aren't career opportunities in this community. and nothing could be further from the truth."
Page also spoke about the frequency of area college graduates leaving after graduation.
"We've got great talent that lives here. And obviously, we've got a lot of employers in this community who are always looking for great talent. Unfortunately, what happens too often is that graduates from the University of Alabama and other higher education institutions will leave this community once they graduate."
Page said, "This is an effort led by the University of Alabama and specifically their career center to match local employers with soon-to-be graduates of the University of Alabama so that we can try to keep a lot of this talent here."

According to Jim Page, the event featured about twenty-five local businesses that met students Thursday evening.
"We've had probably close to 100, I would say soon-to-be graduates of the University that have been here that are actively seeking opportunities to stay in this market. So we're thrilled with the start and we know it'll grow, grow from here."
