The University of Alabama announced it is suspending normal operations until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning beginning at 1 p.m. in light of Tuesday's severe weather threat.

The university has several storm shelters open in the event of a tornado. Locations and information on the available storm shelters are available here.

The severe weather threat is expected to last from 2 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday and could produce tornadoes, damaging winds of up to 70 mph, large hail and localized flash flooding.
