If you’ve picked up products labeled “natural” or “holistic” lately, state officials are warning you to double check what’s actually inside.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has issued a statewide cease and desist order targeting products containing kratom, which is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance under Alabama law.

According to the press release from the Attorney General’s Office, independent lab testing found illegal kratom compounds in products currently being sold across the state, without clear notice to consumers.

Some of the products identified include “Boujee Bliss,” “Better Weather,” and “Happy Hour,” often marketed for relaxation or pain relief.

“Alabama will not be a marketplace for dangerous, illegal substances regardless of what they are called or how they are packaged,” Marshall said, according to the press release. “These products prey on unsuspecting consumers, including children, who have no way of knowing what they are purchasing.”

State officials say any product containing these compounds is illegal to possess or sell, no matter how it is marketed.

“We are putting every retailer on notice that they need to remove these products immediately,” Marshall said, according to the press release. “Those who choose to ignore this order will face the full force of the law.”

According to the press release, businesses that fail to comply could face felony charges, asset seizure, and civil penalties, while consumers are urged to use caution when purchasing wellness products.
