Once again, a law enforcement officer is under fire after racist remarks are made public.

A few weeks ago, it was a Mississippi Police chief who used racial and homophobic slurs during a conversation with another officer through text message.

According to CNN, the chief could be heard saying, "killed a m*therf**ker in cold blood,” and that he himself had killed 13 people."

This week, people in Vincent, Alabama became angry and have spoken out against their assistant police chief.

According to WBRC, residents believe the assistant police chief allegedly sent racist text messages to his colleagues.

WBRC reports that the texts said, "What do y'all call a pregnant slave?"

It's said that other officers sent back question marks to the question before the assistant police chief replied,

"BOGO. Buy one, get one free,"

The Shelby County NAACP has gotten involved in the matter. Their President Reverend Kenneth Dukes says, “Why would our taxes pay money for this gentleman to sit in that seat of authority?” Dukes said.

“Other citizens in this town, are not comfortable with this person coming to their home, or even stopping them on the side of the road."

The Mayor of Vicent James D. Latimer plans to investigate the text messages and he's scheduled to give an update later this month.

To me, this seems pretty open and shut. To even utter a "joke" like that, you have to be a special kind of person.

There is no way I'd feel safe or protected knowing that the assistant police chief is speaking like this behind closed doors. I could only imagine what the other officers are saying or thinking.
