Oh no! Say it ain't so! Alabama ranked as 2021's 6th worst state for working dads.

This isn't the news I expected to hear after Father's Day. How could Alabama be ranked this low?  I'm trying to think of everything I look at as a new father myself. What would make the yellowhammer state a "bad place" for fathers in my eyes?

Salary is definitely the first thing I'd think of. The next would be the cost and quality of the childcare facilities. Since my days of babysitting my friend's kids, I knew how expensive childcare could be. I always knew one day I'd end up having to face the music with that but it's coming so fast! Work-life balance is another thing that matters as well as health. I feel like those kind of go hand and hand.

According to Wallet Hub, Alabama is 2021's 6th worst state for working fathers. In order to determine the best states for men who play a dual role of parent and provider, WalletHub compared the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia across 23 key indicators of friendliness toward working fathers. Their data set ranges from the average length of the workday for males to child-care costs to the share of men in good or better health.

Out of the 50 states, Alabama working dads ranked 49th for male life expectancy and 47th for daycare quality. My son hasn't been to daycare here in Alabama so I can't speak from experience on that part. I'd be interested to know your thoughts on the child care facilities in the state. What have you experienced? Could they be better or are they up to par with your standards?
