Alabama Secures $203M to Transform Rural Health Care
Alabama is taking a major step forward in strengthening health care access across the state after receiving formal federal approval for a sweeping rural health initiative that brings with it significant funding and long term impact.
Governor Kay Ivey announced that Alabama has officially received its award number from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, clearing the way for more than two hundred three million dollars in first year funding through the federal Rural Health Transformation Program. The five year program will be administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and is designed to improve access quality and outcomes in health care with a strong focus on rural communities.
According to the press release form the office of the governor, Ivey said the approval is the result of months of preparation after federal legislation created the program. “We are very pleased Alabama will be awarded more than two hundred three million dollars in the first year of the Rural Health Transformation Program,” Ivey said. “Now that it has been approved we will take the next steps to ensure our citizens and communities benefit for generations.”
The program was established under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act which was passed by Congress and signed into law earlier this year. Shortly after its passage state agencies were directed to begin building a comprehensive rural health strategy so Alabama would be ready to move quickly once the program officially launched.

According to the press release form the office of the governor, Ivey emphasized the broader vision behind the investment saying, “Making America Healthy Again begins in rural America and I look forward to being able to improve health care across Alabama.”
