Alabama Honors Will Roberts With Statewide Day
Gov. Kay Ivey has proclaimed Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, as Will Roberts Day in Alabama, honoring the life and legacy of a 15-year-old whose courageous battle with cancer inspired thousands across the state and nation.
Will Roberts, the son of Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Bureau of Investigation Captain Jason Roberts and his wife, Brittney, passed away on July 23 after a lengthy battle with stage 4 osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer.
"Alabama is remembering Will as a brave young man whose courage inspired us all," Ivey said. "God has called him home, where he is healed and with our Savior. I am proud to honor his life well-lived by officially proclaiming Will Roberts Day in the state of Alabama."
Over the past year and a half, Will's fight against cancer touched countless lives. His family's public plea for help opened the door to experimental treatment in California, drawing support from thousands of people across the country, including members of the Trump administration. Donations from supporters helped cover the cost of his treatment.

Despite the challenges he faced, family members and supporters say Will remained positive, encouraging others and bringing hope to those around him. His journey united communities in prayer and became a source of inspiration for children and families battling cancer.
According to his mother, Will passed away in the early morning hours of her birthday and is now "finally ringing his forever cancer-free bell."
Will's funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 1, the same day Alabama officially recognizes Will Roberts Day.
