Charges Against Funnymaine Dropped

Remember when it was suggested that Birmingham comedian and now activist Jermaine “FunnyMaine” Johnson incited a riot during peaceful protests following the brutal and inhumane murder of George Floyd?  The accusations against Johnson led to his arrest, and he was free after making bail without ever placing foot in a cell.  Now, it is said that the charges against Johnson have been dropped! You read it right… DROPPED!

If you’ve ever wondered what could cause charges to be dropped in a criminal case, here’s a little help. According to Neal Davis Law Firm:

1. Insufficient evidence: Basically, the evidence against the accused isn’t strong enough.
2. Fourth Amendment violations: Some of the evidence was illegally obtained and is inadmissible in court.
3. Procedural issues: Proper procedures weren’t followed during the arrest, booking, interrogation, etc.
4. Lack of resources: An overwhelmed court system which decides it makes more sense to drop smaller cases.
5. Willingness to cooperate: Snitching.

What do we know about Johnson’s case?

Well, we know that social media can be one of your greatest assets or one of your greatest hindrances.  It all depends on how it’s used. Contrary to the hatred many spread using the tools available, the videos shared of Johnson’s words actually provided enough evidence to show that the charges against him were conjured up by those who were angry with his speaking out against a symbol of oppression.

Of course, most of Johnson’s opponents cite The Confederacy as part of their heritage… *insert side eye* Four years of existence hardly the grounds for heritage. So, the heritage must be one of something that existed before The Confederacy.  A perceived superiority maybe?

Whatever the case, the authorities saw fit to drop the charges.
