Downtown Tuscaloosa is switching things up this April, and it’s a win for anybody who enjoys the city’s creative side.

The First Friday Art Walk is expanding to two nights, happening April 3 and April 10, giving artists and venues more room to showcase what Tuscaloosa has to offer.

One of the standout features this month is the Black Belt Biennale at Harrison Galleries, running through April 24. The exhibition highlights artists from across Alabama’s Black Belt, bringing a wide range of perspectives and styles into one space.

Over at Lorrie Lane Studio, “Works on Paper” offers a more intimate experience with pieces from Lorrie Lane, Liz Lane, Sheryl Jefferies, and Jeremy Butler. Visitors can meet the artists during the opening reception on April 3 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Paul R. Jones Museum adds a unique twist with “Biophilia: Designed by Nature,” an exhibit that blends art and science by exploring patterns like symmetry and spirals found in the natural world.

The second Art Walk night on April 10 highlights student talent at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. The TCSS Fine Art Showcase features middle and high school artists, along with live performances from local choir and jazz groups.

Also opening that night is an MFA thesis exhibition from Maziyar Derakhshani, featuring portrait work inspired by life inside a Tuscaloosa dive bar.

With more dates, more artists, and more experiences, April’s Art Walk is shaping up to be one of the city’s strongest yet.
