Downtown Tuscaloosa is bringing creativity back to the forefront as the First Friday Art Walk returns May 1 with a fresh lineup of exhibits and gallery experiences.

The monthly event continues to spotlight the city’s growing arts scene, giving residents and visitors a chance to explore multiple galleries all in one evening.

Just down the road, the Paul R. Jones Museum will feature “The Domestic Liminal: The In-Betweeness of the Home,” a new exhibition co-curated by Tiffany Hawkins and Scott Moore that explores the meaning of space and home.

At Lorrie Lane Studio, the First Friday event will run from 5 to 9 p.m., featuring multiple showcases. Gallery 22 will host “C2: A Collaborative Art Exhibit,” while the main studio highlights new paintings from Lorrie Lane.

Visitors can also stop by the University of Alabama Gallery, where “NO TITLE – Maz Derakhshani” remains on display, offering another chance to experience the artist’s work.

Looking ahead, Harrison Galleries will host the 5th Annual Verner Art Show on May 8. Curated by Tuscaloosa City Schools art teacher Molly Brooke Threadgill, the event is expected to feature more than 1,500 pieces created by students from kindergarten through fifth grade.

From established artists to young creators, the First Friday Art Walk continues to highlight the depth of talent across Tuscaloosa, turning downtown into a hub for art, culture and community connection.
