A new urgent care facility for children operated by the Crimson Care Network is tentatively set to open in Tuscaloosa in August.

A spokesperson for the Network, which is already familiar to Tuscaloosa residents through their two Crimson Care clinics, the First Care walk-in clinic, Tuscaloosa MedSpa and more, said there are not enough options in West Alabama for children's urgent health care needs.

Instead of waiting outside a hospital emergency room or booking an appointment with a child's pediatrician, the First Kids clinic promises to offer a wide range of medical services and in-house lab processing so parents and children can get in, get out and get back to the things they love.

Whether your child needs a strep test, urine analysis or an X-Ray to determine a break or sprain, First Kids will handle it on-site and reduce the worry of long waits for test results.

The new facility will also boast its own pharmacy so parents can fill prescriptions right at the clinic instead.

First Kids will be open late, operating from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. every weekday and closing at 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

“We are proud to be here for our community by offering after-hours treatment to kids in Tuscaloosa and our surrounding areas,” said Scarlett Crews, the marketing director of the Crimson Care Network.

Crews said First Kids Urgent Care will primarily be a walk-in facility, but online appointments will also be available for anyone who prefers a set schedule. The clinic will accept all major health insurance plans and Medicaid and will also work with uninsured, self-paying parents.

The new clinic is set to open its doors in the first week of August at 1251 McFarland Boulevard NE in Tuscaloosa next to the First Care Urgent & Primary Care Clinic. Crews said after the clinic opens, parents and children will be wowed by its colorful lobby and Stevie Stetho, the friendly-faced First Kids mascot.
