Former UA Golfer and Tuscaloosa native Dicky Pride won the Mitsubishi Electric Classic on Sunday, which was good for his first career PGA Tour Champions victory.

Pride claimed victory even after he had to earn his spot into the tournament during the Monday qualifier round.

Entering Sunday, Paul Goydos had a two shot lead over the second place Pride, but Pride was able to earn a three shot victory with a 5-under 67, giving him an 11-under score card on the weekend. Goydos finished tied for second at 8-under along with Stephen Ames and Kirk Triplett.

Born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Pride attended Tuscaloosa Academy before playing for the University of Alabama. While competing for the Crimson Tide, Pride was named All-SEC in his junior and senior years before turning professional in 1992.

Sunday's victory earned Pride just his third ever professional win. His first and only win on the PGA Tour came in 1994 at the Federal Express St. Jude's Classic. He also won the WinCo Foods Portland Open on the Web.com (now Korn Ferry) Tour in August of 2015. Sunday's win on the over-50 tour makes Pride just the 18th ever golfer to win on all three tours.

While he will greatly enjoy the $270,000 winner's check, perhaps even greater of an award is the exemption Pride earns to compete in every event on the Tour Champions through 2022.

Pride's victory after needing to earn his spot in the Monday qualifier made him just the 14th ever golfer on the over-50 tour to claim a tournament victory after having to participate in the Monday qualifier.

Pride will look to continue to make Tuscaloosa proud as the next PGA Tour Champions event, The KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, begins on May 27th at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
