I'm Dreaming About My High-Dollar Life on National Lottery Day

Happy National Lottery Day!  Well, kinda.  In Alabama, we really can’t celebrate National Lottery Day because WE DON’T HAVE THE LOTTERY. [sigh]  However, I know several of my friends that make the drive to the state line to play the lottery in Georgia.  According to Play USA, the states that do not offer the state lottery or online lottery include “Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah.”

Growing up in Florida, I was accustomed to the lottery.  My mother played all the time and would win.  I mean, she didn’t win massive amounts of money, but she was excited.  She had a whole system for her lottery numbers.  She even kept records of her numbers and had some mathematical scenarios on her chances of winning.  Guess who found all these records, me.  When I finally brought myself to go through my mother’s items after she passed, I got a good laugh at the box of spiral notebooks with all her numbers.  I like the scratch-off tickets because it’s quick and easy.  Also, when I do play the lottery, I do the quick pick or a specific set of numbers.     I often wonder what I would do if I hit the lottery BIG TIME!  I know for sure I would still work, but here are the first five things I would do with my winnings:

#1 - Buy myself the most expensive Chanel handbag they offer in Black.

#2 - Purchase my beachside retirement home in Gulf Shores, Alabama, which must have a pool and hot tub.

#3 – Donate my current Prius and get myself a brand new with all the bells and whistles Prius in Black.

# 4 – Make a donation to my Alma Mater Bethune-Cookman University, perhaps large enough where a building is named after me!

#5 – I would like to purchase land (where it makes sense) in Pompano Beach, Florida, and whatever city I am living in to design and build out a beautiful park named after my parents, where kids can enjoy life and play in a safe environment.

I know the odds are against me, but I can dream.  According to the Accounting U World, “People are more likely to do the following than win the lottery: 1. Die from an asteroid strike: 1 in 74,817,414 2. Become a movie star: 1 in 1,505,000 3. Get struck by lightning: 1 in 1,101,000 or 4. Bowl a 300 game: 1 in 11,500.”
