Nate Oats Signs New Contract with Alabama
Alabama head coach Nate Oats has made the NCAA Tournament every season he's been in Tuscaloosa, with 2024 all but guaranteed as well. He's won two SEC regular season titles and two SEC Tournament titles. He's gotten Alabama to the Sweet 16 twice.
And now, he's locked in for the foreseeable future.
According to a tweet posted by University of Alabama Athletic Director Greg Byrne, Nate Oats has signed a new contract with Alabama, with details being released after a meeting with the UA Board of Trustees on Monday.
Michigan fired their head coach, Juwan Howard, following a disappointing 2023-2024 campaign. Louisville also fired their head coach, Kenny Payne. Meanwhile, Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann has changed jobs as well.
Nate Oats is from Big 10 country, so the prospect of moving closer to home could be seen as appealing from these programs. That doesn't appear to be the case. He's set to lead the Crimson Tide men's basketball team for many years to come.
Nate Oats signed a contract extension with Alabama just a season ago, in February 2023. The deal kept Oats in Tuscaloosa through the 2028-2029 season, with Oats expected to make $4.5 million for the 2023-2024 season. The deal was set to increase his pay by $200,000 annually.
The new contract is expected to make Oats one of the top-five highest-paid coaches in the country.
Oats and the Crimson Tide will take on the Florida Gators at roughly 8:30 p.m. CT on Friday in the SEC Tournament. With the contract extension signed, Oats will have no distractions as the Tide officially begin postseason play.
