Tide Torments Tigers Late
Jalen Milroe scramble and hit Isaiah Bond for an incredible Iron Bowl winning touchdown with 32 seconds left and Alabama rallied to beat pesky Auburn, 27-24.
"Believe it or not, we practice that," said Tide coach Nick Saban.
"Never give up," Milroe said after posting 259 passing yards and 107 more on the ground to key the Tide offense in the win.
After Bama forced a three-and-out, Roydell Williams capped a 69-yard march with a 2-yard TD run for a 7-0 early Tide lead. Milroe hit Malik Benson for 33 to convert a key third down and extend the drive.
After Kendrick Law's touchdown run was wiped out by a penalty, Auburn tied the game with five minutes left in the quarter on a 2-yard run by Demari Alston that was set up by two strong Jarquez Hunter rushes.
Bama was driving and in the red zone when the opening ended at 7-7.
After another UA touchdown was wiped off due to Milroe being across the line, Will Reichard kicked a 32-yard field goal 51 seconds into quarter two for a 10-7 Tide lead.
Auburn drove 88 yards and scored on a Ja'Varius Johnson reverse with 2:24 left in the half.
In three plays, Alabama was back ahead courtesy of a Milroe pass of 68 yards to Burton with 93 seconds left in the half.
A Terrion Arnold pick to close the half kept the Tide's lead at 17-14 with Bama set to receive the second half kick.
Bama drove the length of the field but had to settle for a 22-yard Reichard field goal with 9:12 to go in the third. The Tide lead was 20-14.
It didn't last, as Johnson scored on a 27-yarder from Thorne to put AU up 21-20 with 6:36 left in the third.
A missed 42-yarder that would have given Reichard the NCAA scoring record had Auburn up by a point heading to the final period.
Alex McPherson kicked a 21-yard field goal to give Auburn a 24-20 advantage with 10:15 left in the game.
Auburn muffed a punt late in the quarter to set up Milroe and Bond's heroics.
