Alabama Governor Tells Automakers To “Fix” Issues Related To UAW

Governor Kay Ivey is telling the automakers in Alabama to "fix this" before the union vote according to a report from AL.com.

According to AL.com, the Alabama Commerce Secretary, Ellen McNair, made the comments last Friday. McNair began her role as commerce secretary on January 1, 2024.

McNair specifically pointed at the United Auto Workers organization attempts in Vance and Montgomery at the Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai plants reported by AL.com.

Tensions have been high and are expected to rise even higher in the days before the votes on May 13 and May 17.

Media campaigns from pro and anti-union groups continue trying to get their messages out to voters on radio, television, and social media.

Workers at Mercedes-Benz have told the Tuscaloosa Thread that temporary workers and a two-tiered pay system that places current employees on one scale and new employees on another wage scale.

AL.com reports that Governor Kay Ivey has personally been on the phone with leaders from the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance and has told upper management officials that "if there are issues, you need to fix this," according to McNair.
