West Alabama Divine Nine Organizations Celebrate NPHC Founders’ Day
The Tuscaloosa West Alabama Chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is honored to commemorate the 94th Anniversary of the NPHC's founding.
The NPHC, also known as the Divine Nine, includes the following sororities and fraternities:
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
“The purpose of the NPHC shall be to foster cooperative actions of its members in dealing with matters of mutual concern,” said the NPHC. In addition, this organization is dedicated to enhancing the welfare of its member fraternities and sororities. It supports the creation and growth of local NPHC councils and offers leadership training programs for its members.
The Tuscaloosa – West Alabama Chapter is honored to have dedicated over 50 years to active service and engagement within the Tuscaloosa and Blackbelt communities. The collective of the Divine Nine unites to engage in community service initiatives, embodying their guiding principle, "We are Stronger Together!"
“We must continue the service work to ensure that students in school earn high school diplomas,” said Kenneth Webb, President of the local NPHC chapter. “The work is important to ensure that elementary students are not retained due to the Literacy and Numeracy Act. Voter Engagement and Voter Literacy are needed to inform community residents that all votes matter.”

The Scholarship Reception will honor high school students who receive scholarships for the year 2024. This event is scheduled at The University of Alabama Alumni Hall at 4:00 p.m.

"Social with a Purpose" aims to unite the Divine Nine Family for an evening of culinary delights, enjoyable activities, and meaningful fellowship at the Fraternal Order Police Building located at 3250 9th Court in Tuscaloosa starting at 5:30 p.m.
D-9 attendees are kindly requested to contribute non-perishable snacks suitable for young children for admission to the event. These contributions will be generously donated to local elementary schools.
Vonda James, Vice President of the local chapter, said, “The fellowship is important to the community because it shows, although we are in different organizations, we have the same values. We promote unity and believe in fostering and strengthening relationships because we are stronger together.”

Webb said that in 2024, the “community can expect continued educational and recreational partnerships along with voter engagement for registration and voter participation.” Plus, the continuation of partnerships with the “American Red Cross, Small Business Administration, and Good Health Wins.”
