A Tuscaloosa fabric store will soon permanently close, along with two others in Alabama and about 500 nationwide as their parent company struggles through its second bankruptcy in a year.

Ohio-based Jo-Ann Stores, which operates over 800 remaining JOANN stores in the U.S., has announced plans to shutter more than 500 of them as it seeks a buyer to save the others.

A list of the closing stores was published this week, and it includes the stores in Tuscaloosa, Montgomery and Florence, Alabama.

“As part of the ongoing Chapter 11 process and our efforts to maximize the value of the business, JOANN has filed a motion seeking court authority to begin closing approximately 500 stores across the nation," the company said in a statement. "This was a very difficult decision to make, given the major impact we know it will have on our Team Members, our customers and all of the communities we serve. A careful analysis of store performance and future strategic fit for the Company determined which stores should remain operating as usual at this time. Right-sizing our store footprint is a critical part of our efforts to ensure the best path forward for JOANN."

The Tuscaloosa store is on Veterans Memorial Parkway near its intersection with Dr. Peramsetty Avenue. The fabric company's statement did not say how soon the store will close.
