He's sharing his thoughts in a new memoir titled All You Can Do Is Pray--a phrase many Tuscaloosans remember Spann saying on April 27, 2011.

As the Chief Meteorologist for ABC 33/40 and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa, Spann is seen as THE weather authority in Alabama, and that's a responsibility that weighs heavily on his heart.

"I needed to write the words down. The science behind the April 27, 2011 generational tornado outbreak. What it was really like in that studio that day in front of the green wall with what felt like the weight of the world on your shoulders," Spann said.

"[I]f I didn't write this book I would be haunted every day for the rest of my life," Spann said. "[And] most importantly, I had to share stories of those who experienced the 62 tornadoes first hand. Some who survived, some who did not."
