Tuscaloosa Women Loses Daughter & Granddaughter April 27th, 2011

10 years ago, the city of Tuscaloosa suffered major damage. This Tuscaloosa woman ended up losing her daughter and granddaughter on that day.

Growing up in Florida, tornadoes was never a worry for me. This was similar to this woman who moved to Tuscaloosa from Ohio. After visiting her son for a few weeks, she fell in love with the weather and the city and has since never looked back.

On that day, Vickie described how it felt like a normal day and it was actually a beautiful day outside. She spoke on that afternoon before the storms. "It was beautiful. It was just so beautiful outside." This is something I've heard many people say about that day. Many people I've spoken to

"The walls where my children were, peeled back like a can opener," as she describes her tornado experience, "The tub that they were in went up in the air. "

I can't imagine being in that situation. After being swept away by the tornado, Vickie ended up suffering from a broken leg and elbow, nerve damage, and more. After all, she's just happy to be alive. Ultimately, Vickie lost her daughter and one of her granddaughters due to the tornado.

Today, Vickie is raising her now 13-year-old granddaughter in Tuscaloosa. I admire not only Vickie's strength in making it through this situation but her granddaughter as well. Going through all of that at 3 years old, and having to deal with the loss of her mother and sibling is a lot to deal with. It's already hard enough growing up being a teenager.
