Lexi Kilfoyl Bounces Back For Career Outing Against ASU
One week ago, sophomore RHP Lexi Kilfoyl was put in to relieve junior RHP Montana Fouts in Alabama's semi-final game against Tennessee for the 2021 SEC Tournament; however, her performance just wasn't up to the level that she'd been operating at all year and she was pulled after facing only five batters and giving up two runs. Fouts had to re-enter the game, which Alabama would move on to win, and Kilfoyl's confidence came into serious question after the weekend.
Friday, on the other hand, Kilfoyl left no question unanswered and dominated Alabama State in game two of the NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional. Breaking her own personal record, the right-hander out of Land O' Lakes, Florida tossed 15 strikeouts past the 17 batters she faced and combined efforts with senior RHP Krystal Goodman to secure a no-hitter by committee.
After the winning effort from Kilfoyl and Goodman, coach Patrick Murphy said, "That was a hell of an effort by Kilfoyl...." On preparation for the start Murphy said, "We didn't want to over do it. She's been pitching all week in practice... We tried to make it as game[-like] as possible, we put the noise at a high level and let her go to work."
On her personal-record-setting performance, Kilfoyl said, "It felt really good to get back out there, the fans were amazing and my teammates had my back to whole time." On her new record, the sophomore said, "I honestly didn't even know. I kinda just went out there and was taking it one pitch at a time."
Game three in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional between Clemson (1-0) and Alabama (1-0) starts at 11:00 AM CST on Saturday, May 22nd.
