West Alabama has been dealing with concurrent rain and strong winds Monday and Wednesday of this week. The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a warning for significant severe weather for Wednesday, March 17, 2021.

University of Alabama students and their pets took cover at nearby storm shelters on campus. Twitter user Steven Pate (@stevenpate89) was enjoying a break between storms when he captured a video of lightning striking the UA football complex.

Pate clarified on Twitter that he has been taking proper safety precautions during Wednesday's severe weather, which resulted in a brief tornado warning for Tuscaloosa County.

For some context: after we were given a temporary “all clear”, I decided to take my dog outside so he could use the bathroom. I was videoing the skyline when lightning struck. -Steven
