Alabama basketball is coming off a historic season in which the Tide won both the SEC regular season and tournament championships for the first time since 1987. Head coach Nate Oats joined Ryan Fowler on The Game this week to discuss his sudden success, talk about his summer plans and preview year three of the Oats era at the Capstone.

Oats admitted his second year was exciting but credited his predecessor, Avery Johnson, for leaving him a roster with players who were ready to step up and win. Oats was able to maximize Kira Lewis, Herb Jones, John Petty and others into the best basketball season since the turn of the 21st century.

"I had some confidence we could get this thing rolling pretty quick. It's not going to be easy to keep it at the level it was this year. There's a lot of teams in the SEC have a lot of pride that are going to be gunning for us but I like our roster coming back for next year for sure," said Oats.

The NCAA announced the conclusion of the recruiting dead period at the beginning of June, allowing coaches throughout the country to host recruits and hold camps in order to see prospects.

"We're super excited, we've got team camp coming up this weekend. I think we've got 100 teams in team camp so over three days it'll be good. We'll have a lot of games, get to watch a lot of high school basketball and get to meet a lot of high school coaches. Then we've got some skills camps and day camps coming up throughout the month of June and some in July too."

The Tide was able to bring in a stellar recruiting class, highlighted by electric point guard JD Davison. Davison was rated the top player in the state of Alabama and the No. 10 player in the country. The Letohatchee, AL native is already impressing his new coach.

"We've got all the new guys on. JD's been as good or better than advertised, he's going to be really good. He's got great feel for the game. He can really pass, when you get him on a college roster with really good talent all around him where he's got four great options to pass to, he can really make reads," said Oats. "I think he's shown he's definitely a point guard. I think he's a guy who's going to play in the NBA as a point guard and you can see it in practice, I've been really impressed with him."
