Alabama has no shortage of talented content creators, but one new community wants to make sure those creatives see each other as collaborators instead of competition.

Alabama Creator University, also known as ACU, was created to bring creators from across the state together in an environment focused on learning, collaboration and growth.

Founder Kalin says what began as an idea has already developed into a community of 40 founding creators.

“My goal is to create opportunities for creators to learn, collaborate, and grow together,” Kalin said while introducing the organization.

One of the ideas behind ACU is combating the “crabs in a barrel” mentality that can sometimes develop within creative communities, where people may feel like someone else’s success takes away from their own opportunities.

Instead, the vision is to create a stronger creative community in Alabama by encouraging creators to share knowledge, build relationships and find ways to work together.

That could be especially important as social media continues to create new opportunities for Alabama influencers, photographers, videographers, podcasters, personalities and other digital creators to build audiences and turn their creativity into businesses.

ACU's first group includes 40 founding creators who believed in the concept from its beginning, but Kalin says this is only the start of what she hopes the community can become.

For Alabama creators, the idea is simple: everybody doesn't have to fight for the same seat.

Sometimes, building a bigger table together can create more opportunities for everybody.
