Nick Saban Praises Transfer Tackle Tyler Steen
Nick Saban spoke with the media on Wednesday, following another day of fall camp for the Crimson Tide, and covered several topics.
The coach opened by commenting on the effort of his team from this week's practices so far, saying, "We obviously have things that we need to improve on (...) Not disappointed in where we are at all. Not satisfied where we are either, but I think that people are trying to do the things that they need to do to get where we want to go."
Saban was asked about the status of one of Alabama's newest additions by way of the transfer portal, tackle Tyler Steen, and the coach responded positively, highlighting the progression the former Commodore has made thus far.
Saban said, "I think [Steen] has a lot of ability. I think that all the new players that come in, it's a little different culture here," the coach continued, "They all have to sorta buy into the culture of how we do things, what we do, not easily satisfied with what we do and how we do it and to challenge yourself to be the best that you can be on every play. I think that's the question that I would have for a lot of different players, but [Steen] is certainly showing a lot of ability."
"He's made really good progress. He's a bright guy, but consistency in performance is something that we're really focused on. And that will create tremendous value for him."
Steen joined the Tide this offseason after spending the first four years of his career at Vanderbilt. He was a three-star prospect in the class of 2018, hailing from Fort Lauderdale, FL, and was a starter for 19 games in his time in Nashville.
With the departure of Alabama's bookends from last season to the NFL, Steen is expected to take be a major contributor on the offensive line this year.
