No. 1 JUCO Player Sets Commitment Date, Crimson Tide a Finalist
One of the Alabama Crimson Tide's top recruiting targets is set to make a decision on his football future soon. The No. 1 JUCO player in the nation, Malik Benson announced on social media that he would be committing to his next school on July 5.
Benson, a 6-foot-1 wide receiver out of Hutchinson Community College is deciding between Alabama, Oregon, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee.
He came to The Capstone on an official visit on June 15 and is being recruited by Alabama defensive line coach Freddie Roach. Crimson Tide wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins visited Benson at Hutchinson C.C. in April while scouting late 2022 signee, tight end Miles Kitselman.
“Just past history with the receivers and what they’ve done and the culture they’ve built,” Benson told Hank South of BamaOnLine on Alabama and his final group. “And the relationship I’ve got with Coach Wiggins. How I picked my five, that’s just places I can see myself playing at. I’ve just got to go on visits and whatever place makes me feel like home, that’s going to be the decision-maker.”
The Lansing, KS., native hauled in 43 receptions for 1,229 yards and 11 touchdowns as a freshman in 2021, setting the NJCAA single season record for yards per-reception with 28.6.
The Crimson Tide have made a strong effort at bringing in play-makers at the wide receiver position over the last five years, featuring five first round draft picks over the last three years. Should Benson choose Alabama he stands a strong chance to continue that legacy.
