The city of Northport has stated that the new ordinance is to include not only damaged property found in the discovery process, labor, and material costs, but will also include the investigating, processing, communication of the repair order to repair damage to city property, and a minimum $250 administrative fee.

Currently, the ordinance reads that individuals are only responsible for the cost of materials and on-site labor. This is only a fraction of the cost to repair such damage, said the City Council.

Northport Is hoping that the increases will help them recoup some of the losses they have incurred with the current language of the ordinance.

We reached out to Bobby Herndon, the Mayor of the city of Northport, and his response to our inquiry is as follows…

“Anytime damages occur to infrastructure of the city of Northport there will be a $250 charge to cover legal and administrative costs on top of the charges to correct whatever damages occur. If the damages are by an act of vandalism these costs plus jail time will be incurred. If the Mayor sees you committing an act of vandalism towards the city or its citizens well.....Let's just say it would not help your street cred for a 70 year old man to chase you down”

If you would like to attend any of the Northport City Council meetings they are held in the City Council Chambers at the Northport City Hall on the first and third Monday of each month.
