It only took two games for Kool-Aid McKinstry to make an impactful play for the Alabama Crimson Tide. McKinstry, the top player in the state of Alabama in the 2021 recruiting class, intercepted a Drew Sanders batted ball in the first quarter to give the ball back to the offense at midfield.

The 5-star freshman corner made his first career start and through one half of play he's been attributed three tackles to go along with his first career interception.

The Alabama Crimson Tide took a 31-0 lead over Mercer into halftime but McKinstry's play came at a moment when the game was still close on the scoreboard. The Alabama offense took over at midfield and payed-off the interception with a 4-yard Brian Robinson touchdown run to go ahead by two scores.

It remains to be seen if Jalyn Amour-Davis re-aggravated an ankle injury or if Saban feels like McKinstry is ready to take over as the full time second corner.
