Ohio State transfer Jameson Williams made a statement in his Alabama debut Saturday. The junior from St. Louis hauled in four receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown in the Tide’s 44-13 win over Miami.

It was a rough start for Williams with a drop on the Tide’s first possession followed by a false start in their second possession. A pair of carries by Brian Robinson Jr. gave Alabama a new set of downs following the false start penalty. On 1st & 10, Williams brought in his first reception as a member of the Crimson Tide, catching a 14-yard slant from Bryce Young, putting Alabama into Miami territory.

Following a field goal and a Miami punt, Alabama was set up with 3rd & 6 on their own 36-yard line. With great protection, Young was able to find Williams for a nine yard gain and an Alabama first down. Young found Williams in the redzone for another nine yard gain later in the drive putting the Tide offense at the 9-yard line. On the next play, Young was able to dump it off to tight end Cameron Latu who found the endzone for the Alabama score.

Williams would be held off the scoreboard until the 3rd quarter, when Miami failed to convert on 4th & Goal on the Alabama 1-yard line, giving the Crimson Tide possession. Brian Robinson barreled forward for a gain of five before Bryce Young was forced to throw it away after pressure from the Miami defense, giving Alabama a 3rd & 5 backed up in their own end.

Young took the snap on 3rd down, and from his own endzone, fired down to the 40-yard line where he found Williams wide open. Williams broke free down the sideline and put on the jets for a 94-yard touchdown catch. It was the longest reception of the junior’s collegiate career and the longest touchdown pass of Bryce Young’s career. The score put the Tide up 34-3 and put the game out of reach for D’Eriq King and the Hurricanes.

The play goes into the history books as Alabama's second longest touchdown pass in school history.

With the help of sophomore QB Bryce Young, Williams recorded his career high in receiving yards and tied his career high for receptions in a single game. In addition to his career high’s, Williams’ 126 yards fell only 28 yards short of his receiving total from the entire 2020 season at Ohio State.

Williams will look to further his already impressive start to 2021 when Alabama takes on Mercer in their home-opener at 3 p.m. CT in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
