Summer will look a little different in the Druid City this year, as the Tuscaloosa Parks and Recreation Authority announced that it does not plan to open its outdoor pools for the summer season. This includes the Blewitt Pool Complex located in Bowers Park and Freeman Pool located in Freeman Park.

“We were planning for this to be the last year for Blewitt Pool in Bowers Park without major renovations," said Executive Director Gary Minor. “The Blewitt Pool has been repaired and patched well beyond its expected life span, and considering the fact that the American Red Cross is not allowing life guard certification, it is the right thing to do,” he said.

Splash Pads at Palmore Park and Evans Roshell Park are set to open on June 1st.

Indoor pools located at the Faucett, Miller and Tingle Centers will be open with social distancing practices in place. The Dockery Pool at the McAbee Center may open at a later date, depending on guidelines from the Governor and Alabama Department of Public Health regarding seniors. Swim lessons will take place in indoor pools, and indoor pool parties are available for groups of eight or less.
