The Denver Broncos announced on Monday the jersey numbers for rookies and newly signed players this offseason.

Patrick Surtain II will wear No. 2, the same number he wore during his three seasons in Tuscaloosa. The former Alabama defensive back was selected with the ninth overall pick in last months NFL draft.

Surtain became the fifth cornerback and eighth Alabama defensive back to be selected in the first round during the Nick Saban era.

As a junior is 2020, Surtain earned first team AP All-American honors as well as the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award. He made 38 consecutive starts during his collegiate career, compiling 117 tackles, 27 pass breakups and four interceptions.

Surtain possesses elite physical traits, standing at 6-foot-2 and 208 pounds. He has excellent combination of size, length and speed that allow him to matchup with any wide receiver on the outside.  Surtain is technically proficient and an excellent form tackler.

The Florida native was asked shortly after being drafted what he can do for this Broncos team. "I think I should come in Day 1 and just make an impact on the team by my play style, by my play traits," Surtain said. "I think I can come in and make an immediate impact.

“It’s a very stacked defense,” said Surtain. “I can’t wait to compete with those guys at a high level each and every day. I'm just very excited I think when it's all said and done, we're going to be the No. 1 defense in the NFL.

Denver is scheduled to begin rookie minicamp this Friday, May 14th.
