The COVID-19 pandemic has propelled many of us to pick up new hobbies or revisit old ones. I’ve enjoyed picking back up my joy of reading. My new favorite Turn It On Ten: Unleashing the Power Within comes from Alabama resident Jasmine Agnew.

Agnew felt that it was necessary to share her stories. In hopes of others who may have gone through the same trials and tribulations. She found her motivation to write came from her friends that “encouraged her to get busy.” She has authored three books, “The Ministry of Womanhood: Pieces Along the Way,” ”Turn It On Ten: Unleashing the Power Within,” and “The Family Untied,” which was written with her son, Tyler.

Jasmine Agnew's background is impressive and extensive.  She is a product of Baldwyn Public Schools in rural Baldwyn, Mississippi. Agnew is currently the Program Chair for the Bachelor of Sciences in Health Information Management program at Western Governors University. She is a graduate of Itawamba Community College with a degree in Health Information Technology, the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a degree in Health Information Management, and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center with a degree in Health Informatics and Information Management. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). She has spent the last 20 years in the field of HIM in corporate training, EHR implementation, and post-secondary education.

“The Family Untied,” written with her son, Tyler, released May 1, 2020. Based in Birmingham, Alabama, the Manning family was the perfect family that exuded black excellence. This read takes you on a journey through their lives as a couple, delves into their successful children and hidden secrets. These “dark secrets that will leave the family untied,” from “the description from The Family Untied.

”Turn It On Ten: Unleashing the Power Within” was released on December 23, 2019. This is my personal favorite because it guides you through the steps to help you set your goals, align the work to achieve them, and encourages you through the process. Agnew notes that “these ten steps are designed to help you move from being inactive in your aspirations to becoming a rockstar as you start collecting victories and successes,” from the description from ”Turn It On Ten: Unleashing the Power Within.”

“The Ministry of Womanhood: Pieces Along the Way” was released on December 14, 2019. If you want to know what it is like to be a minister and a mother, this collection of short stories is the way to go. Agnew shares tons of personal information from “what she's learned, and how she sees the world,” from the description from “The Ministry of Womanhood: Pieces Along the Way.”

Jasmine is the founder of Calera Eats!, Alabaster Eats!, Bibb County Eats!, and Alabama Eats. These social media platforms have a 12,000 person following.  These social media channels highlight local eateries in the Shelby and Bibb County areas in Alabama. She was named one of the top 100 people to know in Shelby County due to her work with her platform, “Plant a C.E.E.D; Through Community Engagement and Economic Development.”
