Stillman College Celebrates Royalty at Annual Coronation Ceremony
On Saturday, November 2, the vibrant community of Stillman College gathered at Birthright Alumni Hall to witness a grand tradition: the annual Coronation Ceremony.
This year marked a momentous occasion, as Nya D. Fowler was crowned the 77th Miss Stillman, while Kenyatta L. Lewis Jr. took on the title of 4th Mister Stillman.
The event, themed "Fire and Ice," was a spectacular kickoff to the college's 148th Founder's Week, drawing an enthusiastic crowd. Fowler, hailing from Hueytown, Alabama, is a senior majoring in biology and already pursuing graduate studies at the University of Alabama. A former Miss Junior, she is also the captain of the Golden Perfection Dance team and a dedicated member of the Epsilon Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Her crowning moment was led by Jean A. Wilson ('90), a past Miss Stillman and current director of alumni affairs.
Lewis, originally from the Bahamas, is a business administration senior specializing in cybersecurity. He is actively involved with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and has gained valuable experience through internships at ARD Logistics and The Coley Agency in Tuscaloosa. His crowning was conducted by Thomas Davis Jr. ('13), a proud sponsor of the Royal Court.
Both Fowler and Lewis reflected on their journeys, recalling the support that sustained them through the challenges of the pandemic. Lewis paid tribute to the late Dr. Kevin Harris, a cherished faculty member.
The ceremony also featured heartfelt performances, including music, spoken word, and dance, as Dr. Yolanda W. Page, the college's eighth president, welcomed attendees. As the night progressed, the Royal Court, consisting of students from various class standings, was introduced, further showcasing the vibrant spirit of Stillman College.
This annual celebration not only honors tradition but also highlights the resilience and unity of the Stillman family.
