American Christian Academy head football coach Chris Smelley has resigned his position according to ACA Athletic Director Rob Cain and our own Gary Harris. Smelley's resignation comes just three weeks before the Patriots are set to open their 2021 season.
The Alabama High School Athletic Association announced today its promotion of Alvin Briggs to its executive director position. The position opened up due to former Executive Director Steve Savarese retiring, Savarese held the position since 2006 and was only the fourth full-time executive director in AHSAA history.

In a battle of defense, Pinson Valley (12-2) walked away victorious. The Indians defeated Spanish Fort (11-4) 23-13 to win the 6A State Title. This third state championship continues an impressive run for Pinson Valley during the 2010s. The Indians also won the legendary “blue map” in 2017 and 2018, which means this is the team’s third title in four years.
The Handley Tigers (12-1) out of Roanoke, Alabama defeated the Gordo Greenwave (13-2) 35-20 to win the AHSAA Class 4A State Championship. The Tigers defeated both tuscaloosa-area schools, American Christian Academy and Gordo, in consecutive weeks to win the championship in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
A perfect gumbo of big plays in all phases of the game resulted in a classic as the St. Paul Saints (15-0) defeated the Pleasant Grove Spartans (12-3) 29-21 in the 5A state title game in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
In 18 seconds the Thompson Warriors (14-0) scored 10 points to salvage a perfect season and win the AHSAA Class 7A State Championship over the Auburn Tigers (12-2) 29-28.
