The Scripps National Spelling Bee Has Been Cancelled For 2020

Spelling is not my strong suit.  I mean, thank heavens for Alexa, Google, and Grammarly.  I was the last picked and the first out for middle school spelling bee contests.  However, oddly, I enjoyed The Scripps National Spelling Bee that highlighted the best spellers from young minds.  Sadly, The Scripps National Spelling Bee has canceled its national finals for this year due to COVID-19.  According to Spelling Bee, “this year marks the only time since World War II (1943-1945) that the Bee has been canceled the national finals since the program’s inception in 1925.”  How sad for students who are currently eight graders because they will not have the chance to compete past eighth grade.  They have announced that the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee will take place in National Harbor, Maryland, on June 1-3, 2021.  Also Spelling Bee noted that “beginning in August, teachers at enrolled schools will have access to spelling and vocabulary materials.”
